Chariton Valley Electric Cooperative (CVEC) is proud to announce that the Russell Volunteer Fire Department has been awarded a $5,600 grant through its first-quarter 2025 Operation Round Up program. The funds will be used to purchase a new large-diameter hose, significantly enhancing the department’s firefighting capabilities and improving safety for both firefighters and the residents they serve.
For small, rural departments like Russell’s, keeping equipment up to date is critical—but often difficult with limited funding. This grant helps the department better respond to emergencies, protect property and ensure the safety of its volunteer team members. It’s just one example of how CVEC’s Operation Round Up program delivers real, tangible benefits to local communities.
Empowering Our Community
Operation Round Up exemplifies the cooperative spirit – turning small acts of generosity into lasting impact. Through this program, CVEC members voluntarily round up their monthly electric bills to the nearest dollar, with the extra change pooled together to fund grants for local organizations and service projects.
“It’s amazing what a little spare change can do when we all pitch in,” said Troy Amoss, CVEC CEO/General Manager. “Thanks to our members rounding up their bills, we’re able to support important projects like this that really make a difference in our communities.”
Since its inception, Operation Round Up has supported everything from emergency services and food banks to youth programs and community improvements. To date, the program has awarded $118,699.11 to 35 organizations across the CVEC service area. It’s a reminder that when we come together—even in small ways—we can create lasting change.
